TRC20 vs ERC20 vs BEP20: The Three USDT Networks Compared

TRC-20, ERC-20 and BEP-20 are the three networks most sportsbooks take for USDT. The coin is worth the same on each, but the address, the gas coin, the speed and the withdrawal fee all differ. Here they are side by side.

TRC20 vs ERC20 vs BEP20 at a glance

The three networks, and how many of the ten books we review take USDT on each.

TRC-20 (Tron)

6 of 10 books

Tether issues USDT on Tron itself. Addresses start with T, gas is paid in TRX, and a block is scheduled every 3 seconds.

ERC-20 (Ethereum)

7 of 10 books

Tether issues USDT on Ethereum too. Addresses start with 0x, gas is paid in ETH, and a block is produced every 12 seconds.

BEP-20 (BNB Chain)

7 of 10 books

A separate dollar token that books treat as USDT. Addresses start with 0x, gas is paid in BNB, and blocks come in under a second.

The block times come from each network's own documentation. On Tron a block becomes final, or irreversible, about a minute after it is made.

Is TRC20 the same as USDT?

USDT is the coin. TRC-20, ERC-20 and BEP-20 are the token standards of the networks it runs on.

  5. Thrill ERC-201 USDT2.5 USDT minimum
  6. Thrill BEP-201 USDT2.5 USDT minimum

Stake charges a flat 1 USDT on all three. The book's fee can differ far more than the network's own cost: Cloudbet's Tron fee is almost a thousand times its BNB Chain fee. More in USDT network fees.

TRC20, ERC20 or BEP20: which to pick for betting

A quick way to choose, depending on where your USDT is now.

  • Your USDT is on an exchange

Pick a network the book lists, then compare the exchange's withdrawal fee per network; it shows each one before you send.

  • Your USDT is in a Tron wallet

Use TRC-20, and keep some TRX for Energy. Avoid Cloudbet's 3.19 USDT Tron withdrawal by withdrawing on another network.

  • Your USDT is in MetaMask

Switch MetaMask to BNB Smart Chain for cheap sends, or stay on Ethereum and expect a dearer gas bill when the network is busy.

  • You want Tether's own token

Use TRC-20 or ERC-20; BEP-20 USDT is a separate token.

  • You bet at Duelbits

ERC-20 or BEP-20 only; it lists no Tron.

  • You withdraw small amounts

A flat 1 USDT fee eats a small withdrawal. At Cloudbet, BNB Chain costs under a cent.

TRC20 vs ERC20 vs BEP20 mix-ups that lose USDT

The networks do not talk to each other. These are the errors that cost money.

  • ERC-20 sent to a BEP-20 address

Both start with 0x, so nothing stops you. The deposit may never be credited.

  • TRC-20 sent to a 0x address

A T address and a 0x address look nothing alike, so this mix-up is easy to spot. Check anyway.

  • No gas coin

A Tron send needs TRX, a BEP-20 send needs BNB and an ERC-20 send needs ETH.

  • The wrong token

Copycat tokens can use the name USDT. Use the USDT your wallet or exchange lists.

TRC20 vs ERC20 vs BEP20 FAQ

Is TRC20 the same as USDT?

No. USDT is the coin; TRC-20 is the token standard on Tron, one of the networks USDT runs on.

Is TRC20 cheaper than ERC20?

To send yourself, usually yes. At sportsbooks it depends on the book: Cloudbet charges more on Tron than on Ethereum.

Can I send TRC20 USDT to an ERC20 address?

No. The networks are separate. Send only on the network the receiving address was made for.

Is BEP20 USDT the same as ERC20 USDT?

Both use 0x addresses and books treat both as USDT, but they are different tokens on different networks.

Which network is fastest?

BNB Chain makes blocks in under a second, Tron every 3 seconds and Ethereum every 12 seconds.

Which network should I use for betting?

One both your wallet and the book list, with a low withdrawal fee at that book. Tron and BNB Chain fit most cases.
