Sent USDT on the Wrong Network: What Happens, What to Do

A USDT deposit sent on a network the book does not list is not credited. Whether it can be recovered depends on the networks involved and on the book. Here is what four books say in their own rules, and what to do first.

What sportsbooks say about USDT on the wrong network

Four books put it in writing. None promises to recover a wrong-network deposit.

Stake
No creditcoins sent via the wrong network will not be credited
Shuffle
May be lostan unsupported network may be irrecoverable; no duty to try
Duelbits
At risklong delays, failed deposits or lost funds
Thrill
Lostwithdrawals to the wrong network may be permanently lost

Shuffle adds that where it does try to recover such a deposit, it may charge you its reasonable costs.

Shuffle terms clause 9.17 on deposits made on an unsupported network
Clause 9.17 of Shuffle's terms: a deposit on an unsupported network may be irrecoverable.

Sent USDT on the wrong network: what to do now

Five steps, in this order. Do not send more until you know what happened.

  1. Step 1

    Stop sending

Do not try a second deposit to the same address to test it.

  2. Step 2

    Find the transaction

Copy the transaction ID from your wallet or exchange history.

  3. Step 3

    Check it on an explorer

Paste the ID into Tronscan, Etherscan or BscScan to see which network it went out on and whether it confirmed.

  4. Step 4

    Contact the book's support

Send the transaction ID, the network, the amount and the deposit address.

  5. Step 5

    Ask what recovery costs

Ask whether they will try and what they charge before you agree to anything.

Only deal with support through the book's own site or chat. Anyone who messages you first offering to recover USDT is not the book.

Can USDT on the wrong network be recovered?

It depends on which two networks were mixed up.

  • ERC-20 sent to a book's BEP-20 address

Both use the same 0x address format. If the deposit address is an ordinary wallet address, the same key controls it on both chains, so the book can move the funds if it chooses to. It is not obliged.

  • A withdrawal to your own MetaMask on another chain

Your MetaMask address is the same on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain. Add the other network in the wallet and the USDT should show there.

  • A withdrawal to an exchange on the wrong chain

Contact the exchange with the transaction ID; it decides whether to credit it.

  • TRC-20 and a 0x address

A Tron address starts with T, so this mix-up is easy to spot before you send.

  • A token the book does not take

Stake and Shuffle say unsupported coins are not credited.

How to avoid sending USDT on the wrong network

Stake's help centre lists most of these itself.

  • Match the network label

The network in your wallet must match the one chosen in the book's cashier.

  • Send a small test first

Stake suggests a small test amount before a large deposit.

  • Copy, paste or scan

Never type an address; one wrong character can lose the funds.

  • Add the memo when asked

Cloudbet asks for a memo on TON deposits.

  • Check the book's network list

Duelbits takes USDT on Ethereum and BNB Chain only.

  • Withdraw carefully too

Thrill warns that withdrawals to the wrong network may be lost.

USDT wrong network FAQ

What happens if I send USDT on the wrong network to a sportsbook?

The deposit is not credited. Stake says it will not be credited; Shuffle says it may be irrecoverable.

Can a sportsbook recover USDT sent on the wrong network?

Sometimes, when the address works on both chains, but no book promises it and Shuffle may charge for trying.

I sent ERC-20 USDT to a BEP-20 address. Is it lost?

Not always. An ordinary 0x address is the same on both chains, so the book can move it if it chooses to.

How long does recovery take?

No book publishes a time. Duelbits warns of long delays.

Can I send TRC-20 USDT to an Ethereum address?

No. Tron and Ethereum addresses look different, and the networks are separate.

How do I stop it happening again?

Match the network in your wallet to the book's cashier, and send a small test first.
